Safeguarding Policy

Our commitment to keeping students safe.

Our commitment

Ben's Maths is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all students, including children and vulnerable adults. We recognise that everyone who works with young people has a responsibility to keep them safe.

This policy applies to all tutoring sessions, communications, and interactions carried out under the Ben's Maths name.

Key principles

  • The welfare of the child or vulnerable adult is paramount
  • All students have the right to protection from abuse and neglect
  • All concerns and allegations are taken seriously and responded to appropriately
  • Staff and tutors work in accordance with safeguarding best practices

DBS and qualifications

All tutors at Ben's Maths hold an enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check. Our lead tutor, Ben Gillespie, holds a PGCE in Secondary Education and has over 15 years of experience working with young people in schools.

Online safety measures

All sessions are conducted via video call. To maintain a safe learning environment:

  • Sessions are one-to-one and private, but parents/guardians are welcome to observe at any time
  • Parents/guardians are encouraged to keep the device in a communal area of the home
  • No personal contact details are shared with students directly — all communication goes through parents/guardians for under-18s
  • Session recordings are never made unless explicitly agreed with the parent/guardian
  • All digital tools used in sessions are professional and age-appropriate

Recognising and reporting concerns

If a safeguarding concern arises during a session or through any interaction, we will:

  • Listen carefully and take the concern seriously
  • Not promise confidentiality — we may need to share information with appropriate authorities
  • Record the concern accurately and promptly
  • Report to the relevant local authority or the NSPCC helpline (0808 800 5000) as appropriate
  • Follow up to ensure the concern has been addressed
